Paul Heyman confronted WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena

HOUSTON – John Cena has a problem, and that problem goes by the name of Brock Lesnar. With The Beast Incarnate named the No. 1 contender to Cena’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship and The Champ is staring down “the beating of a lifetime," Cena broke his silence to the WWE Universe and addressed the seriousness of the coming match, though he promised to defeat The Anomaly when all was said and done.

Paul Heyman, of course, was not about to let the opportunity to one-up Cena pass by, but the mad scientist’s mouth seemed set to get him into some hot water before long. Enter Cesaro. Despite no longer being a Paul Heyman Guy, The Swiss Superman took issue with Cena’s treatment of his “friend” and challenged The Champ on behalf of his former advocate, who accepted the gesture with grace and … friendship? Who knew.

WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena def. Cesaro

He probably shouldn’t have insulted the shoes. Cesaro’s strong words for John Cena turned to fighting words in Raw’s opening moments, and The Champ wasted no time disproving Cesaro’s claim that he couldn’t wrestle, breaking out a pair of hip tosses, a headlock, a hurricanrana and a monkey flip for the sold-out Toyota Center crowd in the first five minutes of their match.

Cesaro took pointed advantage of Cena’s unusual display of showmanship in the rematch of their instant classic from February, using his own grappling to force The Champ into Ruthless Aggression mode. The King of Swing stayed alive with pure strength, unleashing a 10-rotation Cesaro Swing and clobbering The Champ with the Very European Uppercut, but a last burst of energy won The Champ the day when he jettisoned Cesaro off the top turnbuckle for a super-Attitude Adjustment and 1-2-3.

POWER RANKINGS: JULY 26, 2014

John Cena remains at the No.1 spot in this week's edition of the Power Rankings.

What entrance themes do superstars wish they had?

Entrance envy. It happens. Even the Superstars who have the most identifiable themes in all of WWE — the John Cenas, Randy Ortons and Daniel Bryans of the world — have personal favorite songs that they’d consider entering the ring to.

Don’t believe us? Well, we’ve got proof: WWE.com asked 10 Superstars and Divas whose entrance music other than their own they’d like to have. Then, just for fun, we edited videos showing how it might look if, for example, AJ Lee skipped into action to the sound of … well, read on and you’ll see!

John Cena chose Ric Flair's entrance

There’s obviously a great deal of mutual respect between the all-time record-holder for World Title reigns, Ric Flair (16 reigns), and the runner-up, John Cena (15). But The Champ’s admiration for The Nature Boy extends well beyond Flair’s incredible accolades. According to the Cenation leader, if he could pick anyone else’s song, it’d be Flair’s theme, Richard Strauss’ “Also Sprach Zarasthura,” which was made famous by the 1968 Stanley Kubrick sci-fi classic, “2001: A Space Odyssey.”

Cena’s rationale for wanting the song was straight and to the point: “Watch the movie.”

#WWETransformed: 10 Superstars Makeovers

John Cena

If you looked up "jorts" (jean shorts for the uninitiated) in the dictionary, you might find a photo of John Cena staring back at you. However, even the Cenation leader has apparently grown tired of them as he's transitioned to camouflage cargo shorts as his go-to battle gear. Cena's pride and connection with the U.S. military has been clear since day one, so why not indulge the concept of an outfit that goes further than his shorts and signature salute?

WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena Vs Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2014

At the 27th annual SummerSlam, WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena will defend his title against arguably the most destructive Superstar of all time, Brock Lesnar.

The only man to have ever captured the WWE Championship, NCAA Division I Heavyweight Championship and the UFC Heavyweight Championship, the 286-pound Lesnar was selected to challenge Cena by WWE COO Triple H, who has guaranteed the Cenation leader will not leave Los Angeles as The Champ on Aug. 17. Just one week before announcing the blockbuster matchup, Lesnar advocate Paul Heyman — without mentioning his client by name — was seen offering Triple H a “Plan C” for assuring Cena’s title reign come to an end.

Now the match is official, and The Biggest Party of the Summer will be headlined by a main event between the unofficial Face of WWE and the Superstar responsible for breaking The Undertaker’s 21-year undefeated streak at WrestleMania.

Leading into their high-stakes SummerSlam clash, Cena and Lesnar have plenty of history between them. The two fought several battles during Cena’s rookie year in WWE, and the 15-time World Champion was Lesnar’s first opponent upon The Anomaly’s return in 2012. Cena used a steel chain and an Attitude Adjustment onto the steel steps to narrowly win that famous no disqualification duel at Extreme Rules, which has become legendary for its brutality and physicality.

Since his clash with Cena, Lesnar has run roughshod over competition, defeating the likes of Triple H, Big Show and, most notably, The Undertaker at WrestleMania 30. Also since April 2012, Lesnar has reenlisted the services of Heyman, who is widely considered one of the ring’s premier strategists. Will Lesnar make good on Triple H’s guarantee and continue his run of dominance at The Biggest Party of the Summer? Will the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match result in the "beating of a lifetime" for Cena, as Heyman says?

Or will the ever-inspirational Cenation leader, the consummate role model and embodiment of the motto “Hustle, Loyalty, Respect,” rise to the occasion, as he’s done so many times in the past?

Watch this historic match play out at SummerSlam, available live on WWE Network and pay-per-view Sunday, Aug. 17, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

WWE Battleground 2014 Result

John Cena won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Fatal 4-Way Match

TAMPA, Fla. — Note to The Authority: Don’t bother to stack the deck against John Cena. The Champ likes being outnumbered. He enjoys it when the odds are against him. It’s when he’s at his best.

Little surprise then that the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Fatal 4-Way Match — a stipulation which could have seen Cena lose his title without being pinned or submitted — lit a fire under the Cenation leader. You want to take the most prestigious prize in sports-entertainment from the biggest Superstar of his generation? You’re going to have to pry it out of the man’s hands with a crowbar.

Of course, Roman Reigns, Kane and Randy Orton were prepared to do just that, but none of these Superstars could wrestle the title from Cena at WWE Battleground — although each man came within an eyelash of victory.

Who was closest to being the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion? That’s harder to call. The Viper seemed to be the favorite in the early goings of the bout as The Authority’s plan to have Kane block so Orton could run the ball for a touchdown was actually working. Although the two had bickered in the weeks leading up to WWE Battleground — and even appeared to be at odds earlier in the evening — The Demon was battering Cena and Reigns and stepping aside as The Viper went for cover after cover.

Then again, you know what they say about best laid plans. With Cena and Orton on the floor , Kane eventually went for a cover on the former muscle of The Shield — a move which may have been veteran instinct more than anything. When Orton saw this, all hell broke loose. WWE’s Apex Predator stuck a finger in Kane’s chest and then shoved him. The Big Red Monster responded with an uppercut that will most likely have Orton in a dentist’s chair Monday morning. What happened next was even more unbelievable as Kane attempted to superplex The Viper before Reigns and Cena each grabbed a hold of one of The Demon’s legs, leading to a seriously ugly pile of bodies in the center of the ring.

No Superstar could hold onto an advantage at this point in the match. The moment someone connected with an offensive maneuver, they’d be hit from behind by an opponent they’d taken their eyes off of. A double draping DDT on Reigns and Cena by Orton was effective, but Kane sieged The Viper the moment he pulled it off. Orton became a human pinball from there as each competitor took a turn knocking him around the ring. Cena even hooked him in the STF — twice! — which may have spelled the end if Reigns didn’t drag Orton out of the ring in a clever bit of defense.

That ploy set the stage for the showdown we were all waiting on. The up-and-comer and the established hero met face-to-face in the center of the ring where they exchanged heavy fists before Reigns put Cena down with a resounding Samoan drop. When Reigns whiffed on a Superman Punch, Cena went for the Five Knuckle Shuffle, which gave Reigns time to get back on his feet and successfully connect on a second Superman Punch attempt. When Reigns hit the spear, the crowd thought they were witnessing the crowning of a new champion before Kane broke things up.

That drive stayed with Reigns, though, as he circled the ring and dropkicked Cena, Orton and Kane in succession before spearing Orton through the ringside barricade. When the fiery youngster got back in the ring and took Kane off his feet with a spear, it was the single most dramatic moment of the match. The official was literally a millisecond away from counting three before Cena saved his title.

Momentum swung back in Cena’s favor when he dropped Reigns with an AA, but Kane stopped that pin attempt. The Demon had his brightest spot of the match when he took out Reigns and Cena with consecutive chokeslams, but that wasn’t enough to keep either man down. Michael Cole was beginning to sound like the Micro Machines pitchman as he attempted to keep up with this breathless action.

And then, it all unfolded in what couldn’t have been more than 10 seconds time. First, Reigns speared The Demon only to turn into an RKO from Orton, who had reemerged from out of nowhere. The Viper — rising to his feet with the grogginess of a punch-drunk fighter — was directly hoisted onto Cena’s shoulders and AA’d onto the still-prone Kane. Immediately, The Champ covered the Demon and scored the pin, beating the odds to retain the title.

As “My Time Is Now” blared over the loud speakers, Reigns stared into the ring at the champion with the look of a man who just had been mugged in public. Cena’s celebration continued on regardless. With Seth Rollins’ having fled Dean Ambrose earlier in the evening, The Authority did not have “Plan B” at their disposal.

All was well in Cena’s world. Of course, he had no way of knowing that moments earlier Paul Heyman had sent out a tweet that read, “In case you're wondering ... Heading to pick up #PlanC ... Just in case.”

Five Sting Dream Matches We'd love to see

The future of WWE has been rife with possibility since it was announced that Sting would be appearing in WWE 2K15. WWE COO Triple H is on record stating, “never say never” in regards to The Stinger competing, finally, in WWE. The Chairman himself, Mr. McMahon, even tweeted about the potential of life imitating art in regards to Sting descending from the rafters into WWE. Thus we are left wondering: If he comes, who does he face?

We’re well aware of the long-standing rumors of Sting battling The Undertaker. We know that’s the ultimate sports-entertainment dream match, but there are so many possibilities with ramifications and historical impact as significant as that match. With that said, we’ve left The Phenom off this list and we’ve selected five Superstars who would make epic opponents for Sting.

#3 Sting vs. John Cena

While not in WWE, Sting has squared off against many of the biggest names in WWE history. He’s stood toe-to-toe with Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, and even “Stone Cold” Steve Austin (back when he was “Stunning”). And throughout his career — give or take one or two instances — Sting has always been a good guy. The fans have always loved him and he’s always been on the right side of history. So it would only make sense that the greatest Superstar in WCW history face off against arguably the greatest Superstar of the modern era: John Cena.

Of course, this runs deeper. John Cena, like Sting, is the ultimate good guy. Cena has stared in the face of hate and betrayal. He’s been outnumbered and, when all hope is lost, the Cenation leader has always found a way. Most Superstars turn their backs on the fans every once in a while, but Cena and Sting have remained the ultimate forces for good both in and out of the squared circle.

The ramifications of such a battle would rival the impact and historical significance of when The Rock took on Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania X-8. It would be two very different generations, two Superstars driven by the same goal: to be the best without compromising their integrity.

WWE Battleground 2014 Prediction

Joey Styles: I’ve never been a fan of Triple Threats or Fatal 4-Ways because the champion doesn’t need to be the competitor who is defeated to lose the title. It’s not so much the increased odds stacked against the champion that I oppose as the fact that I’m a purist who believes that to be the champion, you must beat the champion and not someone else. That being said, John Cena has been WWE’s top star for almost a decade, which is arguably even more impressive than Cena’s 15 World Title wins. It is this staying power that I believe will allow John Cena to defy the odds and retain the title. As a side note, I expect Roman Reigns to prove he can compete on the level as Cena. WINNER: John Cena

Howard FinkelI hemmed and hawed for a bit as to whom I thought was going to win this contest — all four are so evenly matched. But I kept gravitating back to John Cena. I just think that he will have more in his tank to outlast Kane, Orton and Reigns, and retain his championship gold.WINNER: John Cena

Ryan Murphy: Fatal 4-Way Matches have always rubbed me the wrong way. If a guy is going to lose the most prestigious title in sports-entertainment, he better do it the hard way (same goes for the guy winning it). I do think, though, that the obvious disadvantage of this stipulation is the kind of thing that gets John Cena’s motor running. And I think that the mistrust that is bubbling just below the surface with Randy Orton and Kane is where The Champ is going to find his opening to drive away with this one. WINNER: John Cena

James Wortman: “The Champ is here,” but not for much longer. John Cena has a mere 25-percent chance of retaining his WWE World Heavyweight Title at WWE Battleground, and with The Authority conspiring against the Cenation leader and the nigh-unstoppable Roman Reigns hungrily eyeing his championship, Cena’s bags are going to be a whole lot lighter when he leaves Tampa, Florida, on Sunday. However, that doesn’t mean The Authority will have reason to celebrate. With tensions rising between Randy Orton and Kane, Reigns will Spear his way to victory and establish himself as the new top dog in the WWE locker room. But, then again, The Authority always has a “Plan B” or, perhaps, a “Plan C” as well … WINNER:Roman Reigns

John Clapp: The Fatal 4-Way stipulation plays to Roman Reigns’ strengths of assessing and attacking, and it does no favors for The Champ. I think The Authority is about to have a huge problem on its hands, thanks to the obvious trust issues between Randy Orton and Kane, and that’ll ultimately contribute the crowning of new champion in the form of the Superman Punch-throwing juggernaut. He may even score the winning fall on John Cena. WINNER: Roman Reigns

John Cena: 3, Roman Reigns: 2, Randy Orton: 0, Kane: 0

Raw Results (July 14 2014):

Roman Reigns confronted WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena

RICHMOND, Va. – The old saying says that the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Apparently nobody told Roman Reigns this, because the former WWE Tag Team Champion – and potential WWE World Heavyweight Champion – hasn’t made any bones about keeping the current titleholder, John Cena, in his sights despite having two Authority members in the Fatal 4-Way title match as well.

Tensions between the two seemed ready to boil over before their Six-Man Tag Team Match against Randy Orton, Kane and Seth Rollins, and even some peacekeeping from their partner, Dean Ambrose, didn’t seem to do the trick. Unfortunately, their problems increased exponentially when Ambrose – addressing his partners from a undisclosed location – was jumped by The Authority. The Lunatic Fringe was unimpressed with his initial beating, daring the corporate goons to give him their best. He got a Curb Stomp to a crate courtesy of Rollins, and was sent to a local medical facility shortly thereafter.

WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena & Roman Reigns def.Randy Orton,Kane & Seth Rollins via DQ

Two can defeat three, as it turns out, but at a cost. Operating at a disadvantage and with no small amount of internal tension, John Cena & Roman Reigns found themselves mired in an uphill battle against Randy Orton, Kane & Seth Rollins from the word go of Raw’s main event. The most dire moment came when Cena – Ric Flair's personal pick in the Fatal 4 way- suffered a sleeper hold and the Three Amigos from Seth Rollins in short order. That he managed to tag Reigns was a minor miracle, but the good luck ended there as quickly as a black cat crossing: After a nasty spill that tweaked Rollins’ knee and removed him from the match, Orton and Kane rounded on Reigns and beat him to the point of disqualification.

The attack kicked off a four-way brawl that ended with Orton’s tension boiling over via an RKO to Kane and Reigns spearing both Cena and Orton end the show on a high note. So, to recap, as Battleground approaches, alliances are tenuous at best, Plan Bs and Plan Cs are in play, and the WWE World Heavyweight Champion has nothing to count on but the endorsement of a Hall of Famer. May the best man win.

WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena def. Seth Rollins via Disqualification

Seth Rollins isn’t all talk after all. Set to battle John Cena in the main event of Raw, The Aerialist took the fight to The Champ in a big way, breaking out the most dynamic moves from his deep catalogue – hello, spinning chinlock – and very nearly spelling doom with a leaping enziguiri to Cena on the top rope. The Champion of Champions rallied to connect with the Five-Knuckle Shuffle, and even though Rollins escaped the Attitude Adjustment, Cena locked in the STF to strand his opponent in the middle of the ring … and then all hell broke loose.

First, Kane made his entrance to distract Cena. Then, Randy Orton slithered in from behind to help the demon batter The Champ. Roman Reigns arrived to fend off The Authority, and Rollins attempted a cash-in of his Money in the Bank contract, which was foiled in feral fashion by – hello boys, he’s back – Dean Ambrose. The night ended with Reigns making a last-minute save of Cena when Orton went for a final strike and a mutual show of respect between the two Superstars. It may be the last time that happens though. Once Battleground begins, all bets are off.

Where does John Cena rank among the longest reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champions?

John Cena winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for an unprecedented twelfth time at Money in the Bank was an absurd accomplishment. The fact that it hasn’t been celebrated speaks more to The Champ’s standing as a polarizing figure than anything else, but let’s not let a vocal minority stand in the way of interesting data.

Cena’s victory put him ridiculously far ahead of the pack when it comes to WWE Title reigns — and, when considering his World Heavyweight Title runs, places him within an eyelash of Ric Flair’s defining 16 — but where does The Champ stand when it comes to days as champion? WWE.com crunched some numbers and figured out where Cena stands in the grand pantheon of defending titleholders — and how much longer he needs to go to become the defining WWE Champion. Spoiler alert: He's a long ways away.

5 Things People love telling Wrestling fans

Article Written by Prateep

1) "Wrestling Is Fake"

We often have people telling us that wrestling is fake. I totally disagree with that statement. People need to understand that wrestling isn't fake but only the storylines are scripted. That's 2 different things. If you say Wrestling is fake, then you might as well say that running, football, swimming or any other sports are fake. Because wrestling is a sport, not a game. As WWE Superstar,Seth Rollins said in an interview,"We're going out there to entertain you. I consider myself an athlete. I train like an athlete, I eat like an athlete, I recover and get sore just like any other athlete." Only the results are pre-determined. The moves that wrestlers do in the ring, are not fake but it is an art. Years of practice is needed to perfect that so called, "fake" moves. A combination of wrestling and storylines is entertainment.

2) "Stop Talking About Wrestling"

If you don't like a wrestling fan talking about wrestling, then DON'T LISTEN TO IT! You can always move away from a wrestling conversation, instead of staying put and complaining...

3) "Wrestling shirts are too childish, boring and plain..."

Hey,everyone have their own preferences and wrestling fans prefer wearing wrestling shirts. What if a wrestling fan tells a non-wrestling fan to stop wearing a particular shirt? Non-wrestling fans will be pissed off, upon hearing that. The same goes for wrestling fans, right?

4) "Wrestling is SOOO BORING..."

That's your opinion. I don't find wrestling boring,at all. Wrestling is like movies. You never know what's going to happen. Suspense is a key element in wrestling. It keeps you entertained. The chants that live crowds chant during wrestling events, are really addictive. It can make you feel the excitement!

5) "Wrestling isn't popular,anymore"

NO! NO! NO! This year, at Wrestlemania 30 saw an attendance of 75,167 people from all over the world and that's only the fifth most attended Wrestlemania,in history. The top 5 most attended Wrestlemania statistics, can be found in this link (http://corporate.wwe.com/news/2014/4_6_14.jsp) Do you still dare to tell me that wrestling isn't popular, anymore? Here's another fact. Wrestlemania 28 garnered 1.3 MILLION pay per view buys. A record set for WWE Pay Per View Buys! If someone says,Wrestling isn't popular, then tell them these statistics.

Wrestling is AWESOME!

Why John Cena was chosen for the cover of WWE 2K15?

Regarding John Cena getting the cover of WWE 2K15, he has never had a singular cover and was due for one. With the game being on four different consoles this year, The Wrestling Observer reports that the feeling is they have a big opportunity to increase numbers and Cena, not Daniel Bryan, is more known plus people who hate Cena are going to buy the game any way.

Apparently Bryan was in consideration for the cover at one point but the decision to put Cena on the cover was made long before Bryan was hurt and long before they decided to have him win the WWE World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania XXX
